Photo diary: week 2, project 365

It's almost two weeks into the new year, and we're back to school.

We usually walk into town through the flood fields (but return home via town). This cat lives in one of the houses next to the fields, but is often wandering around. Just the other day we saw it walking proudly with a mouse dangling in its jaws.
In this photo it's lying in the dry grass and bramble, so camouflaged, that you can hardly spot it, like a Where's Wally character.

Monday was the last day of holidays (Inset day at school), and we popped into Greggs to have the consolation treat. Eddie has chosen a donut. I've asked for their famous vegan sausage roll, as I'm very curious to try it, but they said they don't sell it in this particular cafe.

Morning walk to school through the fields, and a beautiful sunrise.

I haven't done a charity shops' crawl since before Christmas holidays, when I visit around 5-6 shops around the town centre. Found this gorgeous Spode plate for a fiver, reduced from £10. It's in pristine condition, and I love Spode. I have quite a collection of mismatched Spode plates, all from charity shops.
On Wednesday Sash went to stay overnight at his respite centre. My husband was away, so it was just Eddie and I on our own at home. We spent the evening, watching Netflix, reading and stuffing ourselves with pizza.

In the morning we went to Bill's for breakfast, as Sash was arriving to school from his respite centre, and we didn't have to get him ready for school. Eddie loves the Bill's breakfast on the kids' menu, which is as big as a grown-up's portion. I had a dish of scrambled eggs with smoked salmon, and very nice it was too.

On Friday I met up with a friend for a quick coffee in the morning. We went to the UE Roasters cafe, as their coffee is one of the best in town, and their banana bread is to die for.
I love the display of the vintage books on the window sill. Maybe I should come on my own to have a coffee and read Voltaire's biography.

I had to get something from the summerhouse today, and on the way through the garden spotted that the hellebore started to flower. It always comes very early in the year, and has such an intense deep purple colour.

  1. I'm so impressed that you are up and out early enough to go and have breakfast, mine can barely manage half a bowl of cereal as they are going out the door! Love the cat photo, he is certainly well hidden. I'd love to be able to walk to school instead of jumping in the car every day.

    1. Thank you, Mandi, it was a bit of a struggle to get up earlier, as we had to be there by 8am to be in time for school, thankfully, the restaurant is very close to school.

  2. Isn't it amazing to see flowers starting to bloom? The Bill's breakfast looks amazing. I went to get a Greggs vegan sausage roll the other day too (I'm vegetarian), but they had run out and wouldn't be getting any more in for a few days!

    1. Thank you, Sarah! I've spotted some blossom in town as well, think it might be wild plums, but not sure.

    1. Lol, it's all the controversy around it. It's not that I plan to go vegan. But I'm just curious to try it.

  4. Ahh! We tried the Vegan sausage rolls from Greggs today! They are so good. Not what I expected at all. Crispier and way less greasy than a meaty one. At least you got a donut. I love those. hehehe
I do love a mooch around the charity shops. The plate is lovely!
I read about Bills online and their food always looks so good.

    1. Lucky you! I want to try it! Bill's menu is quite traditional, nothing fancy. Don't think I would want to go there for dinner, but breakfast is fine.

  5. What a beautiful sunrise picture, I hope the first week back at school went okay. I love going out for breakfast it always feels so decedent. What a good find in the charity shop the ones local to us never seem to have many fascinating items but may have a check next time I am in town. Hellebores are gorgeous we have a white one close to the house thats just started to flower, the dark ones are my favourite though x

  6. will need to try a greggs vegan sausage roll one day out of curiosity.
I also love a charity shop mooch but not had a good one since we got Dixie as my car cannot be locked with the alarm turned off so have to park it near the door of one or two easy to get to ones and leave the car unlocked.
Wow at being up early enough to get fed before school.

  9. I think I prefer Where's the cat better to Wally. I love a great charity shop crawl too but usually pick up things for the kids.

    1. My son loves Where's Wally books. That cat is very friendly, and will often come up to you, asking to be stroked.

  12. yeah to the Gregg photo's return, love a donut like that, we have Krispy Creme here and they're not that nice really. Nice you and Eddie get to spend some quality time together when Sash goes to respite, but it is a double edged sword isn't it?
