Photo diary: week 1, project 365

January is the time of new beginnings for many, while we seem to be doing the same things we did last year, including the daily snaps for Project 365.

The first photos of the year were selfies Eddie and I did just after midnight. He insisted on staying up and watching the fireworks in London on TV. His father was away in Italy, Sash went to bed around 10pm. I was also yawning around 10pm, trying to persuade Eddie that the TV was too boring and perhaps we should go to sleep as well, but he persisted.
He was channel-hopping, as we couldn't find anything that was not total drivel.
I called my brother on Skype at 7pm - when they were celebrating the new year (it's 5 hours' difference) - and listened to the chimes of the Kremlin clock welcoming the new year. Once the chimes stop beating, there is usually a Russian hymn coming.
Strange how I remember all the words of the Soviet Union hymn which was played on new year's TV in my childhood. They have changed the words to reflect the new Russia, but the music stayed the same.

Apologies for more selfies, but I just wanted to show my new pinny. I treated myself to a Harry Potter apron.

On the 3rd my husband was back home, and we all went out into town. Eddie and I did some grocery shopping and also popped into Costa for a coffee and panini.
Here is Eddie, chillaxing on the sofa (he did take his shoes off).

Sasha's recent obsession with the church continues. In the last 3 days he's been going to the church every day. He also shows me images of the churches in all the books we've got at home. We really cannot figure out, what has prompted this interest. He seems to be relaxed there.
This is a photo taken by my husband, but I wanted to include Sash in the first week of the photo diary.

Our local ladies at Waterstone's gave us the Diary of the Wimpy Kid bunting that was on display in the bookshop window for weeks, as they knew how much we loved it. It's now hanging in Eddie's bedroom above his photo portrait and Angry Birds poster.

  3. How lovely of the bookshop to do that for Eddie. Perhaps Sasha likes the tranquillity of the churches? lovely that you were able to celebrate the new year with your brother like that. My son was fast asleep by 8pm! #365

    1. Thank you, Mary! Calling my family in Russia at midnight their time always makes me so nostalgic and quite tearful. I wish I were there to celebrate with my Mum and brother, and his family.

  4. hehehe! Good on Eddie for staying up! I would have happily gone to bed before midnight if it wasn't for my two.

    1. Thank you, Cheryl! Sasha is very tall now, taller than his Dad. Eddie is not very happy that holidays are over, and on Tuesday they're back to school.

  6. going to bed sounds like a much better idea, tv is rubbish though we do have alternatives with the likes of netflixs.
Sounds good to listen to the new year come in with your brother.
I am not religious but find a church relaxing and therapeutic and can happily sit quietly in one so maybe Sacha feels the same way.

    1. Thank you, Elaine! I cannot quite pinpoint what draws Sash to the church, and it's also quite a new thing for him.

  7. Happy New Year to you all, it's funny how we recall some things from our childhood in such detail. How lovely Sasha has found somewhere he finds peaceful, do you think it would have anything to do with the acoustics of the building?

    1. Thank you, Suzanne, memory is a funny old thing. I remember a lot of "naughty" poems I learnt as a child from other children, I wish I remembered the classic poetry as well.

  9. Happy New Year, I love the bunting, Kaide would be very jealous as he loves the Wimpy Kid books! I love the apron, and definitely think that a church sounds a lovely place for calmness, I know when things get too loud or overwhelming for Tyrus (especially during the festive time) he takes himself off into a room with nobody in it.

    1. Thank you, Mandi! My son usually escapes to his room as soon as he comes home from school, we know he needs some time on his own.

  10. Happy new year. N was the same - he was bouncing all over the place at the party -we had on the fireworks too. Glad Sasha's found something comforting in church. I guess it makes sense as they're very calming places.

  11. Myself and my eldest managed to stay up but my 6 year old fell asleep. Have to agree though there was nothing decent on TV and I probably would have ended up going to bed too if it hadn't been for my eldest wanting to stay awake!

    Happy New Year!

    1. Last year we had a company and were much more lively. I think because it was just us, I felt so sleepy.
