Photo diary: week 19, project 365

May is the month when I feel mildly optimistic, with the promise of the summer holidays in the not so distant future. I enjoy pottering in the garden, looking at the flowers and tending to my tomato plants in the greenhouse.

On Sunday we went grocery shopping, and also visited Costa for a quick cup of coffee and a teacake for me and a panino for Eddie. I was sipping my latte and reading a review of The Mister. It sounds as bad as I suspected. I could never finish the first book of her famous trilogy, the sex scenes were excruciatingly long and boring, and both characters were extremely annoying. I never found out what happened to the shallow couple, and am certainly not buying the latest "masterpiece". The article though was quite amusing.

funny book reviews

Looks like on Monday I only took photos of the Bonne Maman strawberry yogurt, not the most inspired shot, so here are two pics from Tuesday (neither particularly exciting, but sums up our afternoon perfectly).
Sasha stayed overnight at his respite centre, thus Eddie and I didn't have to hurry home after school. We visited the vintage shop, where Eddie loved this two-seater couch.
We didn't buy the couch, but bought a Neolithic hammer head found at Beachy Head, Sussex, for a fiver. There was a whole collection sold in bits and pieces, it looks like someone's collection, given away by the people who inherited it and don't appreciate it.

We had a pizza and film night, watching Aquaman. We usually enjoy films based on DC Comics characters, but this film was too long (2 hours and 18 minutes) and quite boring. There is Nicole Kidman, who I couldn't recognise at first, as her face looks very different. Just why do the actors and celebs do it?

A rainy day, and another shot of the ice cream tulip which I posted last week - just to show how it has changed.

Loved this display of heirloom tomatoes in Waitrose. So much better when you can pick what you like, and not to have more plastic to deal with.

This week's bedtime reading is Malamander by Thomas Taylor. Both Eddie and I love it. It's a terrific seaside mystery, with a mix of folklore, Gothic horror and magic.

Today we're relaxing at home, doing nothing special.

  1. you should see the amount of plastic surgery people have done here in Dubai and they all look the same, as they age though it just looks worse, not better. Hope Sasha enjoyed his respite, good to see you and Eddie had a nice trip out after school

    1. Thank you, Suzanne, that is truly sad when people want to have an unnatural wrinkle-free look and end up looking the same.

  2. Oh gosh, that book does sound awful. The teacake does look so good though.
That vintage shop looks amazing. I bet there are so many treasures in it!
I actually liked Aquaman, just becuase I'm a big fan of Jason Momoa.
The ice-cream tulip really does look like an ice cream.

    1. Thank you, Kim, we love that vintage shop, it's a combination of junk and real historical finds, with lots of old books, china, jewellery, clothes etc.

  3. Ooh I love a teacake. That sofa looks like it came out of a private jet.

    1. You might be right, Emma, I was wondering where the sofa could come from, it's such an odd shape.

  4. That sofa looks amazing! It's a shame about the Neolithic artefacts, a collection that is now sold in pieces. I wonder if they tried donating it to a smaller museum and keep it intact.

I loved Aquaman, the whole idea of that there is only one world, not two, and that what they were doing in the oceans affected both the oceans and the land is so relevant today, with global warming and plastic pollution. I'm not keen on superheroes movies, but this one was great, for me.

    1. Thank you, Anca, I don't know if they tried to donate it to the museum. Also any primary/secondary school would most likely love to have it.
Good points re global warming and plastic pollution in Aquaman, it's just the long battles that truly bore me.

  5. I could not sit through a film that long, my attention span wanders and gets fed up and I turn it off and go back another time.
Great that you get time with Eddie when Sasha is at respite, love how you always make the most of it.
Sofa looks great, a bit different, and agree with Emma's comment

    1. Thank you, Elaine! I am usually not a fan of long films, at least at home we can wander around to the kitchen, make a cup of tea, go to the loo etc.

    1. Thank you, Cheryl, that shop is a treasure trove. Mind you, there is plenty of junk there as well, like some of the garden things are so rusted and overpriced, I doubt anyone would want them even for free.

  8. The book sounds awful, I hadn't heard of it but it doesn't sound like I missed anything. What a shame about the collection but at least you got something interesting.

    1. Thank you, Alison, I don't plan to read that book either, even for laughs.

  9. I haven't read any of them and don't intend to either :) It's such a shame that someone's collection that meant so much isn't loved by those that follow, nice that Eddie can appreciate part of it though #365

    1. Thank you, Mary! I do feel a little bit sad about the broken up collection, but I don't have money to buy it all, and we're not really collectors. They should have bequeathed it to the local museum or school

  11. I'll look out for Malamander (trying to find ways to get my eldest to read fiction as he is obsessed with non fiction). Love the vintage couch, reminded me of car seats #project365
