Photo diary: week 4, project 366

It seems only yesterday we were greeting the new year, and January is almost all gone.

Last Sunday we all went out together, helping Sasha and his Dad in the café. While we were in a long queue to be served, Eddie has spotted Diet Coke bottles with the urban lingo messages, like Totes Emosh to appeal to the YouTube generation. He found it funny. And before anyone says anything, Eddie doesn't drink Cola or Pepsi (his choice), it was a drink for Sash.

It was a misty blue morning on Monday. This photo of St Mary's church is taken without any filters, it was just blue like that.
Eddie had to go back to the dentist to have the work on his tooth finished. It cost an arm and a leg - over £800. I'm still reeling from this crazy amount. In comparison, it's more than Sash's PIP and my carer's allowance taken together per month.

Walking in the garden on a frosty Tuesday morning, all fallen leaves on the ground and plants were covered in frost.

Spotted this little book in the local vintage shop, with a bit of info on king Edgar. Unfortunately, it was in a pack of  five books for £25, and this month I'm officially broke.

Ladybird book of kings, Chez Maximka

This tree with the evergreen creeper at the neighbours' garden always reminds me of an elephant on its legs, roaring into the sky, a sort of crazy Dumbo. In summer "the elephant" disappears under the foliage.

Catkins are known in Russia as "earrings". That's the hazel tree in our garden.

We went to meet the solicitor to try to figure out what we need to do to get a power of attorney for Sash. It sounds rather convoluted, and there's a lot of hoops to jump through. I'm so not looking forward to all the palaver. But it has to be done this year.

If you remember the photo I posted earlier this month of a jar, where I am growing a hyacinth bulb, here is the progress. The flower bud has "sprouted", it's such an intense bright pink colour.

  1. Wow that is a very expensive trip to the dentist. No wonder you're reeling from it. Love the photo of the leaf covered in frost - the frost does make everything look so pretty. I like the look of the book with the information about King Edgar - was it a Ladybird book? I think I might have had one about kings and queens as a child like it, although can't remember if it included the Anglo-Saxon kings too. Love the shot of the hyacinth bud - what a beautiful colour it is. #project366

    1. Thank you, Louise, and yes, that is the Ladybird book. I'll keep an eye on it, when I visit the charity shops to see if I can find it cheaper.

  2. Hope you get the power of attorney stuff sorted for Sasha. We couldn't do that for my nan as no doctors would sign that she knew what she was letting us do as she had dementia. Bizarre because she could explain it very clearly, so we had to do court of protection instead which was a lot more money. It's quite straightforward to complete, although don't know how it works with children.

    The frost photo is gorgeous.

    1. Thank you, Emma, that's the difficulty of the situation, to explain what it means to S, and then let him make an informed choice.

  3. Goodness gracious, what did Eddie need doing to his tooth? I can't believe the price - I thought it was all supposed to be free for children ? So much hassle and stress getting everything sorted out for Sasha too - fingers crossed it all goes to plan. I LOVE the frosty photo of the leaf - it's been really cold here but no frost or ice, very strange ! I can definitely see the elephant too - very cool - and I ove the sight of the catkins. Spring is on the way, woohoo ! lol

    1. Thank you, Cheryl, I'll explain in the FB group about the tooth. Sadly, it was not on the NHS, it's almost impossible to find an NHS dentist locally.

  4. Eddie does look very happy with the bottle of coke. I've not seen those bottles before.
    That frosty leaf is beautiful.
I hope things get sorted with Sash. x

  6. How lovely of him to spot the coke for Sasha.
    Great spot with the elephant.
Thought children under 16, or those still in full time education got free dental treatment has that changed now then?

    1. Thank you Elaine! We help Sasha with the queuing, as he might get anxious waiting in the queue.

  7. The catkins do look like earrings. Wow to Eddie's dental care, I thought children had it free in the UK or am I wrong, been 9 years since we've had to worry about that with having private medical aid living outside the EU. BTW I have no judgement on the fizzy drinks or most things really unless someone is moaning about a bad diet then posting pictures of high calorie foods etc

    1. Thank you, Suzanne! I am not a fan of fizzy drinks, and rarely drink them, but do buy them for Sash.

  8. £800 is very expensive indeed. I had to google Totes Emosh, as I had no idea what it means, so it's very obvious I don't have children. The book is lovely, a bit pricey though, as it was part of a pack.

Also, who cares if he drinks Cola or not? If someone asks what they can do to improve their diet, I can start a 20 minutes presentation as I did a lot of research when it comes to nutrition, but I would never say anything to anybody without being asked. Each to their own. If someone judges without knowing, that only shows their lack of empathy, and nothing about the person who is judged by them.

    1. Thank you, Mary, the poor English language has been abused a lot recently.

  10. £800 for the dentist is a ridiculous amount! I would have been very upset by that. Hope you can get the power of attorney sorted, that does sound like a lot of work. I can totally see the elephant in the tree!

    1. Thank you, Sarah, once the leaves come in full force, the "elephant" stays hidden.
