Photo diary: week 20, project 366

Days, dates have lost any meaning and have become pointless. I'm not sure which week of the lockdown are we now on, is it 7th or 8th? If Sasha were not attending his school 3 times a week, it would have been even more tricky to distinguish the monotonous routine.
I go through motions, feeling a bit lost in time.

I venture out grocery shopping a couple of times a week, and get annoyed with people not understanding the social distancing.
I cook, read, clean, check out news online, homeschool, read to Sasha, it's all very same-ish.

Last Sunday my husband took Eddie out for a walk in the evening, they passed by the Ability Systems shop. Eddie misses the friendly lady who always waves to us from the shop, whenever we pass by on the way home from school.
They are a really lovely bunch there, helped us so many times with the ipad repairs.

Chez Maximka

Taking numerous photos of our garden to show my Mum what it looks like. She is a keen gardener, and asks me every day on the phone what's what. She remembers all the details of our garden.

Eddie has re-arranged books on his book shelf, moving some books to the closed unit above, and adding some of our latest purchases on display.
We're reading Gargantis by Thomas Taylor at bedtime, almost finished, and will pick another one to read together, maybe the next instalment of the Murder Most Unladylike.

One of the bakes from the last week, a nectarine polenta cake. I have poached a couple of nectarines with apricot brandy, then blitzed them into a puree and added to the cake batter. The cake was lovely, and didn't last long.

Eddie enjoys watching videos of his favourite Youtubers. Unfortunately for me, I cannot stand their inane banter and annoying voices (Skeppy, looking at you!). My child is now wearing headphones so that I don't have to hear the noise.

The rhododendron in the garden is a magnet for bees.

The window display at Waterstones has been the same since the beginning of the lockdown. Every time I pass by, I look at this book title "This too shall pass", and think: How apt.
Rather philosophical. I read it as a message of hope: This lockdown too shall pass.

  1. I am getting very annoyed with people not respecting the social distancing rules. This is why I stopped buying from some shops, to others I go very early. We have a Home Bargains nearby and they open at 6 for everybody. So, we shop at 7, buying more than I used to buy from them, just to avoid going into other shops, even though I miss some of the things I used to buy before.

Love the title of that book. Also, I love that polenta cake. I want to make one, but I can't find cornmeal anywhere, so it remains on my to-bake list. :)

    1. Thank you, Anca, I get polenta at Waitrose. I prefer the Italian brand called Polenta Valsugana. It's very good in baking. Hope you find some too.

  2. The book below has a very apt title too - The Diaries of a Prisoner ! Your garden looks lovely - I can understand why your mum loves it so much. And cake - yum ! :)

    1. Oh, well spotted! I haven't even noticed that title, but yes, it does feel like that at times too. :)

  3. I had to chuckle... headphones are a godsend! Overhearing the same voices on YouTube or the same tunes on TikTok videos can send even the sanest person insane!
Your garden looks gorgeous, much more tended to than mine, however I'm hoping some colour beyond green will start emerging soon when the sun shines again! Eddie's book shelf is rather impressive, I'm appreciating lockdown for the extra time I have to pick up a good read these days! Here's to another week... I think this will be Week 9! 1. Thank you, so far I managed to avoid TikTok, from the ads I see online, I know it would drive me nuts.

  4. I lost track of days and dates weeks ago. They all just blend into one now and do feel really same-ish.
    Your garden does look beautiful.
The bookshelf looks and sounds very organised.
Headphones are the best thing ever with kids who love to watch YouTube. lol x

  5. Your nectarine cake looks so good, I can see why it was eaten to quickly! What a great selection of books, I can see a few my boys don't own yet, they have been reading a lot in lockdown.

  6. Life is definitely same old-same old. I think we are now into week 9 of lockdown. It is definitely hard to keep track of it! How lovely that your mum remembers your garden so well. Your cake looks amazing and I love Eddie's bookshelf. I think my daughter would like the Murder Most Unladylike series too. Even though she's 14, she doesn't like YA books, so she either reads kids' books or tame adults' books - she doesn't like anything too traumatic.

  7. I feel your pain with youtubers. American by any chance? I find them so grating, although even the UK ones seem to just shout all the time. That cake sounds really good.

  8. I get frustrated with people not maintaining social distancing in shops too and yes to headphones so you don't have to hear annoying YouTubers! Love Eddie's bookcase and the nectarine polenta cake sounds delicious. #project366

  9. I have no idea on what day it is! I haven't yet tried polenta in a cake, I was put off after using it when I first went gluten free... #project366

  14. Lovely to send photos of the garden to your mum and have things to talk about that are of interest to you both, don';t blame you with the youtube, good idea to get Eddie headphones, I like watching the videos but find the music and voice overs annoying myself
