Two weeks until the school breaks up for Christmas, and I think we need it. Eddie keeps grumbling every morning how tired he is. I remember how I hated getting up early in the dark, when I was a school child. My Dad used to switch on a radio programme for kids, it was all very jolly and cheerful, and I felt like throwing that radio against the wall every single morning, so I don't blame my child for being grumpy before school.
Eddie was hoping for the big snow which would mean the school closure. Fat chance. We had a measly smattering of snow, not even enough to build a snowman.
I love Spode, and try to buy a few pieces every year. Charity shops are my treasure troves for finding more unusual vintage pieces, but this year I also got a few items on BrandAlley (the candle holder). The mug was one of the prizes I won on Compers News Xmas Bran Tub.
With the beginning of December, there are so many giveaways and competitions online.
I didn't win any advents last year, but I am ever so hopeful.
I stopped doing Like and Share Facebook competitions, as I find them pretty annoying. I've been clearing my Facebook Memories daily in the last year, deleting all the Like and Share posts from the years before, and realised I haven't won any of them. Ever. I had some wins on FB, but only when there were specific tasks involved, like answering a question or adding a photo, or recipe.
I am also joining in with the #penandinkchallenge this month on Insta. I won't be doing sketches every day, but perhaps twice a week, given a chance.
Seasonal Greetings was the prompt for Day 2 of the challenge. I wanted to do a sketch with just black ink, using Parker Jotter pen. The drawing is inspired by a photo of Eddie from a couple of years ago, when we had a decent amount of snow. I remember how delighted he was to find these two snowmen outside the local Cafe Rouge.
Eddie and I are reading Shadowghast by Thomas Taylor (book 3 in the Eerie-on-Sea trilogy). I loved the first book, was less enthusiastic about the second one, and am unsure yet about the third.
I finished reading Marion Todd's See Them Run, which I found gripping, and hope to continue reading the series. This is a fast-paced police procedural series, based in Scotland.
The Scarlet Dress by Louise Douglas is my current thriller. It's available for free for Prime Reading subscription. It is atmospheric and suspensful.
Have you read any of these books? Are you entering the advents?
The Christmas holidays can't come soon enough. We're tired and just sick of worrying about catching Covid.
ReplyDeleteWhat pretty snowy scenes. We had quite a bit of snow here but it didn't last long.
Thank you for running the 12 days of chocolate giveaway. I have been entering and oohing and ahhing over the different chocolate. x
We are looking forward to the holidays too....just had enough now.
ReplyDeleteWe didn't get any snow!
Loving that advent calender!
We didn't have much more snow than you did. But that's plenty for me! I'm loving the comps, but like you, not a fan of sharing ones. It's annoying because I'm sure FB comps weren't allowed to do tag and share for entries, but people still run those. Good luck for your competition entries.
ReplyDeleteWe didn't had a lot of snow either. I like your drawings so much, I admire them on Instagram too. You are very talented.
ReplyDeleteIt isn’t much fun getting up in the dark at this time of year so I don’t blame Eddie for being grumpy. Lovely sunrise photo though. I love your drawings, they’re amazing. I’m the same with usually having a few books on the go at one time. Not read any of your current ones though. #project365
ReplyDeleteThe snow came and went so quickly which made me happier than my son. I am a bit half hearted with the comps and time so never win anything. I can't believe the kids break up next week, but we are all ready for it as long as they don't get loads of homework! #365
ReplyDeleteI can't read more than 1 book at a time, I can't concentrate, but I can watch 2 different series on the TV. Love your ink drawings, they look fab. I don't enter many competitions unless it's something I'd really like to win
ReplyDeleteI so need the holidays more than the kids do! And I am with you as an adult I really don't like getting up in the dark either. Good luck with the competitions. I normally run an advent one but I could not find the motivation this year. Maybe I will do it in Jan instead. Your ink drawing is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I was a morning person back when I was at school either, I think I missed the school transport a fair few times, I remember my mum having to drive me to school not the happiest either about it! haha bless your dad trying to make mornings more fun though. Love the Degustabox advent calendar, I didn't know they did them, glad you managed to get one to review. I find the facebook competitions frustrating too, more annoyingly so now because Facebook keep spamming my entries even when they are perfectly fine, so an even bigger waste of time! :( x
ReplyDeleteI think we had even less snow than you! Very disappointing. I can't wait for the school to break up for the holidays, I think we've earned it! Once again, I'm totally impressed by your artwork. #project365
