I used a bag of crisps as an ingredient in cooking crab cakes. I added crushed crisps to the panko breadcrumbs as the coating for the crab cakes.  They turned out really tasty, with a lovely added flavour and texture.

Chez Maximka, dinner ideas

Namdong Kimchi Jjigae Noodle Pot (£1.60) are Korean-inspired noodles.

K-noodles are a big trend nowadays, with a variety of brands and flavours to choose from.

These noodles allow you to personalise your spice level, as they come with a separate chilli sachet - spice as you like, depending on your preference, from a gentle kick to a more mighty level of heat.

My younger son is the noodle king in our family. He is not the biggest fan of the kimchi flavour, but did say the noodles were fun to try.

Nutritional information: 376kcal and 3.5g of salt per pot; vegan.

Available in the major supermarkets.

Chez Maximka, subscription food box

We start with Bisto Smooth Peppercorn Sauce (£2.95) a new product from the well-known and much loved range.

Like many British families, we buy Bisto gravy granules for a quick and easy gravy. Last month we tried Bisto cheese sauce, and enjoyed it, so we were quite curious to try the new product.

Simply add 4 level tbsp of Bisto instant pepper sauce to 250ml boiling water and give it a quick stir until the sauce thickens.

It's perfect for lamb chops or poured over steak. For a vegetarian dish, use the granules to cook a veggie Bolognese.

Each tub contains 19 individual servings.

Typical values: 42kcal and 0.41g of salt per 50ml portion as prepared; no artificial colours or preservatives.

Available in the major supermarket chains.

Chez Maximka, Degustabox food box

Wagamama Firecracker/ or Coconut +Lemongrass Curry sauce (£2.75)

You will receive one variety in the box. We got Firecracker curry sauce, which is a sweet and spicy sauce with sriracha and chilli. The label promises a bang to every bowl (and I'm taking their word for it. I haven't used this sauce, and will most likely pass it on a friend who enjoys extra spicy food).

The image of three peppers indicates a high level of spiciness. Recreate restaurant dishes at home, like prawn, chicken and tofu firecracker curry.

Nutritional values: 82kcal and 14g of sugar per 100g.

Available in Waitrose, Sainsbury's and Ocado.

Chez Maximka, Degustabox food box

Truly Nuts! Brazil Nuts (£3.99) are sustainably-sourced Amazon-harvested nuts, available plain or coated in rich Belgian chocolate, combining high selenium and healthy fats.

You will receive one variety of three. We got Buck Naked Whole & Raw Brazil nuts, unflavoured, unroasted and unsalted.

I have chuckled on seeing a pack of brazil nuts in the box, as I was talking to my Mum just the other day, and she said they were her favourites. I told her I wish I could give her the pack. Most likely, I will chop the brazils and use as an ingredient in baking cookies or muffins.

Nutritional values: 690kcal and 14g or protein per 100g.; high fibre, source of selenium, vegan friendly, gluten free and non-GMO. Packed in the UK with brazil nuts from Peru, Brazil and Bolivia.

Available in TG Jones (former WHSmith).

Chez Maximka, Degustabox food box

Snyder's of Havover Pretzel Pieces - Honey, Mustard & Onion (£2) are American-style snacks.

These pretzel pieces come in big crunchy chunks. The flavour is bold, very mustardy. Other varieties come in such flavours as Hot Buffalo Wings, Cheddar Cheese and JalapeƱo.

I'm not sure what the final verdict is. they are not bad, but I do prefer small thin pretzels. Perhaps we need to try different favours to find out our favourite. I imagine this snack would be great with a glass of cold beer.

Nutritional values; 532kcal and 7.4g of sugar per 100g.

Available in Amazon, Ocado and quality convenience stores.

Chez Maximka

Tuk in Foods Lime Pickle Bombay Trail Mix (£1.50 for 40g) is a flavourful snack, which offers a combination of cashew nuts, roasted corn, Bombay mix, almonds, mustard seeds and plenty of spice.

I was super excited to see three bottles of Filippo Berio squeezable olive oil (£7.99) in the box. I have seen the new products on Insta and did think they looked fab.

You would only receive one variety in the box (as a regular blogger I got all three flavours to try).

This is the same quality olive oil you expect from Filippo Berio, only coming in a squeezable bottle format for easier drizzling and finishing touches. With an easy-pour cap you can dispense oil without a mess. Great for so many dishes.

There is a Classico olive oil, composed of refined olive oils and virgin olive oils, great for cooking meat or vegetables.

Nestle Cheerios Very Berry (£3.50) - is a new cereal from the popular brand, which promises a delicious taste of berries in every bite.

Campbell's Cream of Mushroom soup (£1.60) is a classic super creamy soup, packed with flavour.

Cook it as a quick and easy meal, or use as an ingredient in a variety of casseroles.

Americans are very inventive when it comes to casseroles made with tinned soup. I have a book of recipes from the times when we lived in the States, and there is a big selection of meals, using this not so secret vintage ingredient, from a Pasta Bake to Baked Cabbage casserole with Ritz Crackers.

Check out recipe ideas at www.campbellsoup.co.uk, if you fancy cooking wild mushroom arancini, beef Stroganoff or roasted vegetable pasta.

Nutritional values: 133kcal and 1.42g of salt per serving.

Chez Maximka, Degustabox food box

Garofalo La Pasta di Gragnano - Stortini (£2.60)- is a durum wheat semolina pasta.

This small shaped pasta is made with children in mind, but grown-ups can obviously enjoy it as well. Curved pasta shapes absorb the sauce, and are great in soups or light meat-based or vegetarian broth.

Degustabox Advent Calendar

Do you buy and enjoy food and drink advent calendars? I don't mean just the chocolate varieties. I've seen cheese, beer, wine, gin, spices, chilli sweets, brownies, popcorn and some other tasty and sometimes pretty weird offerings.

I have ordered a Degusta Box Advent Calendar almost as soon as I've seen it being mentioned online, as we have enjoyed it in the past years. Sadly, there was no International edition this year, and I do hope they will bring it back in December'26, for me that was the bees' knees.

Degusta Box Advent Calendar 2025 contains 24 festive surprise food and drink items. Contents value of this calendar is £55.

Chez Maximka

Let's recap what we found inside, day by day.

Day 1:

Truestart Barista Grade Instant coffee (£6.99) is a delicious instant coffee made with smooth Colombian arabica, that's been lab-tested to ensure you get the cleanest cup.

They say, "No moulds, heavy metals or other nasties and packed with antioxidants or clean coffee makes you feel amazing every time with its regulated caffeine content!"

Glad to have tried this coffee, as I've seen it in the Co-Op and kept thinking I should get one. It's a decent instant coffee, though I won't be buying it, as we love Illy much more.

Day 4

Waterdrop Microdrink Passionfruit (£7.99) will encourage you to drink more water, adding a full-bodied flavour of passionfruit, with a touch of sweetness. This product is made in Germany.

Refreshingly fruity drink, it could be added straight to bottles, allowing cubes to dissolve. My younger son has been enjoying this drink (we had different flavours from the previous Degustabox boxes), taking the bottles with him to school.

This is tasty hydration, made easy. Contains zero sugar. Vegan.

Nutritional values: 4kcal and 0g sugar per 500ml.

Typical values: 43kcal and 0.31g of salt per 100g.

I wasn't super excited with this window as we still have an unopen jar of pickled onions from the last year's calendar, as my guys are not big fans of pickles.

Chez Maximka, Degustabox advent calendar

Day 10

Flawsome! wonky tonic water pumpkin & apple (£1.33) is a smooth blend of crisp, wonky apples and rich flavours of pumpkin. A lovely seasonal drink, refreshing and bursting with taste.

For new year eve's party I served a starter of chickory boats with blue cheese and walnuts, drizzled with olive oil and balsamic vinegar, one of my favourite starters. The vinegar enhances the saltiness of the blue cheese and creaminess of walnuts.

Poppets Wicked toffee  39g (£0.60 each) are milk chocolate coated toffees. Quite a retro candy, but with a modern makeover, as you  can spot characters from Wicked on the box.

Soft and chewy toffee in milk chocolate coating, these are lovely treats to share in the cinema or while watching your favourite show on TV.

Nutritional values: 474kcal and 58g of sugar per 100g (one box is 39g).

Available in Morrisons, B&M, Home Bargains, Farmfoods and The Range.

While lovely as a little candy, Poppets don't quite equate to a Christmas treat in my mind, and I was mildly disappointed to find them in the final window of the calendar. We've just had them in the November food box, and it's not the most exciting way to end the calendar. You would expect something really special for the last day.

Chez Maximka, Degustabox advent calendar

And that's all, folks. Would  I buy it again? Yes, I would, especially if they bring back the International edition.

If you bought this advent calendar, what did you think? What was your favourite product?
