Exploring the neighbourhood

You don't have to travel far to enjoy the outdoors. A long walk from school could be as exciting and full of discoveries. If it's not bucketing like today, Eddie loves stopping at the playground, and we have two nice ones in the vicinity, with swings, slides and all kinds of climbing things.

I love the autumnal colours and sights, with the apple trees bearing fruit, with long branches bending low under the weight of apples. I see that many house owners do not bother with picking their fruit and leave it to the birds and squirrels who have a feast.

These crab apples and apples would make a fantastic jelly

On the north side of town and not far from where we live, there is a beautiful church of Holy Trinity. It was built in the Victorian times, in what used to be an earlier village of Woodgreen and is now a part of Witney.
It always amuses me that the playground is built just next to the churchyard. I wonder if the silent residents of the graveyard have any objections to the noise and children's laughter. Or do the spirits of the long gone children and their strict Victorian nannies enjoy the swings and slides in the dead of the night, when only the benevolent Moon is watching?

There are lots of lovely old cottages around and big chestnut trees which dwarf the cars and even the houses nearby.

I love this house with what I call a "secret garden". I so wish to open that gate and go exploring in the garden.

That's another of my favourites: a house with a red post box. How wonderful is that.

On the way home, my little man loves playing hide-and-seek in the bushes.

The playground is full of attractions, especially for young people with lots of energy. Just the other day Eddie was running with his nursery mates around the playground. They were chasing each other and screaming. I looked at them and thought they looked just like young billy goats.

Rock, rock, rock you boat...

Flying high in the sky

If you're happy and you know it...

There are lots of ripe rosehips and hawthorn berries, enough to feed an army of birds.

And we also found some of the very last blackberries too.

  9. Such a lovely post! In the days of seemingly uniquitous iPads and constant stimulation for little ones, it is so nice to see someone living naturally and joyfully in the outdoors. Stunning photos too.
