It is plus 29C here today this morning, and I'm not functioning well. I have a low tolerance for heat. And it's going to get worse later.
This was the week of GCSE exams and the last week of school lessons. There's no getting around it. My child, who was five only yesterday, or so it feels, said Good Bye to his secondary school. There are still a couple of weeks of exams ahead after the midterm break.
How did it happen so fast? I blinked, and my poppet has grown up.
My Mum's cat has perked up after a week of visits to the vet clinic daily (my brother and his wife and daughter have been helping a lot, also paying for the very pricey treatments, as the money my Mum gave him has all run out in a couple of days. He doesn't tell her how much he has paid for the cat). I'm so grateful to them for helping Mum so much. Alas, I am not even able to contribute anything, as there is no way to send any money.
My husband visited his parents the week before to support them during a difficult time, as they have lost a close family friend. My mother in law, all emotional, passed on a lot of her jewellery to me, including her engagement ring. I'm grateful to her for the gifts, but also sad that she decided to part with it, especially the ring.
This vintage brooch is one of the haul, and I can easily wear it on a coat or jacket.
Finished my Goodreads Reading Challenge. I typically opt for 52 books per year, and then go over.
Friday was the last day of secondary school for Eddie. He asked me to write his name on the white shirt and the school years, plus draw an image from one of his games.
He came back home happy and tired, with his shirt full of signatures from his classamates and teachers.
My new favourite biscuits - Bonne Maman Petits Biscuits Framboise Sésame, so tasty. I have spotted them in Waitrose, and of course, just had to buy.
How did your week go?

I've been out in the garden and I've just came in and had the coldest shower!
ReplyDeleteI still think of your boy being a little one, they do grow up so fast! Good luck to Eddie with the rest of the exams but I am sure he doesn't need it.
Aww! That is great that your mum's cat has perked up a bit. I dread to think how much it will have cost. So sorry about your husbands, parents friend. How lovely for your MIL to pass the jewellery to you. The brooch is so pretty.
That book is a great find and no you don't hear of any baby Winifreds now.
Good job with the Goodreads Reading Challenge. I think I chose 35 books to listen to as I was just starting with audiobooks and I think I will complete it over the next month or so.
Hope you’ve not been struggling too much with the heat – this week has been so hot. Hope that Eddie’s GCSEs are going well. Glad that your mum’s cat has perked up. That must have been very emotional with your mother-in-law deciding to pass her jewellery on. I love old inscriptions in books – that is an unusual dedication and it does make you wonder about the people named in it. Those white roses are beautiful. The thyme flowers are so pretty. Well done on finishing your reading challenge. I need to get back on track with mine! Love that Eddie wanted you to personalise the back of his shirt before he got it signed. The end of an era for you all. #project365
ReplyDeleteLove that you family are paying for your mums cat and her money has run out, that's so touching. My MIL passed on a lot of family jewellery to me not long after I met her, she wasted to see me enjoy it while she was still alive, and she is now 88. The rose looks lovely, shame it had to be cut back, but for the best if it is to survive. Love Eddie's shirt, the kids at my school had some real extravagant designs.
