Mulling syrups from Selsley Foods (giveaway c/d 10 December 2013)
Mulled wine and mince pies are always welcome at Christmas parties. I have recently tested and reviewed Gourmet Mulling Syrup from Selsley Foods, and was very impressed with the high quality of this flavourful non-alcoholic syrup. It contains a special blend of spices and comes in a beautiful bottle of two sizes (200ml and 500ml).

ReplyDeleteThat would have to be mulled wine so I could celebrate actually getting to try some of this lovely stuff. (I did buy a bottle quite a while back to take abroad and it was confiscated by the other county's customs as they refused to believe it was not alcoholic)

ReplyDeleteI have a wonderful recipe idea for this! By chance, only last night I experimented by cooking a gammon joint on the hob, in an unusual liquor of fresh pineapple juice, black pepper corns, bay leaves, satsuma segments and a good glug of traditional Glühwein. I then made a simple glaze of redcurrant jelly and whole grain mustard before finishing it off in the oven. I then decided that rather than waste the cooking liquor as it was so good, I'd make a fruity jus to serve with it, so made a simple roux, added additional stock and it was amazing! (My partner said it was the best jus I'd ever made and I am pretty good at jus, so that was a nice compliment!) I think this syrup would be perfect for this dish!

ReplyDeleteMay sound strange but venison. I usually marinate a joint in homemade mulled wine but this sound like it would be a much quicker way to do it x

ReplyDeleteI would make a Christmas Tiramisu... using panettone or pandoro instead of the savoiardi biscuits that are usually used in the original version. I would alternate layers of the panettone or pandoro, laced with spicy mulling syrup, and a mixture of sweetened mascarpone and whipped cream. A sprinkling of cocoa powder and cinnamon on each layer of mascarpone, ending with a generous amount on top. Yummy! :-) Bruna D.
