Photo diary: week 10 (project 365)

What a difference a day makes! Last Saturday my husband and younger son were throwing snowballs at each other, and the snow in the garden was quite deep. Then overnight the rain has eaten most of the snow.
We did food shopping, and popped into the local Gregg's for Eddie's weekly treat. Apologies for yet another photo from Gregg's, but it was a very busy day, and I didn't take any other photos.

On Monday all the vestiges of snow were gone. I went out to inspect the flowers in the garden and see how much damage there was. All the snowdrops survived perfectly well, and even hellebore seemed to be doing fine. Crocuses wilted badly.

Yet another of my orchids in the kitchen started to bloom. They are just on the window sill by the kitchen sink, and every time I wash the dishes, I look at my flowers.

On Wednesday Eddie and I had a pizza and movie night. Sasha was staying overnight at the respite house, which he enjoys very much, especially the jacuzzi. Our papa was busy elsewhere, so Eddie and I ordered two pizzas from Domino's. It was the first time I have ordered a takeaway online, and actually it was quite fun. There is an app which shows you exactly what is happening: when it is being cooked, when the delivery guy is on the way.
Apparently the Domino's pizza is the best, said Eddie, who believes everything his favourite Youtubers say like a Gospel. He's been begging me to have a pizza takeaway from Domino's for ages.
Thankfully, we just had a flyer through the door for 2 for 1 pizza, or it would have been too pricey.
Pizza was OK, sorry, Youtubers, you don't know much about a really good pizza.
We watched Matilda. Eddie was in charge of a remote control.

The 8th of March is a national holiday in Russia. My late Dad always bought flowers for Mum and me: tulips, mimosa or any other spring blooms which were available. 18 years ago he was staying in a health resort an hour away from where my parents lived, and he came by coach for a couple of hours to give my Mum a bouquet and wish her a happy Women's day, then got on the bus to go back to the resort. That was the last time my Mum saw him alive. A few days later he died of a heart attack. Every year from then on, when I wish my Mum a happy Women's day, she says: This day was the last time I talked to your Dad.
I bought myself a bunch of pussy willow, as it makes me think of the Russian spring.

On Friday Eddie and his best mate had a blast of a time after school playing Minecraft on XBox, then enjoying a new Gazillion Bubble Pong game and having burgers and ice cream for dinner.
I had a healthy lunch of porridge with spicy apples.

Nothing much is happening today, we have done shopping, and are just taking it easy.
I've been putting papers in the big recycling bin in the garden, when I spotted this pigeon on the neighbours' house.

  1. Matilda is a great choice of film bit I'm with you on Domino's being just meh. I never order pizza as takeaway as I'm always shocked at the price abd it is never that great. #365 I have orchids in my kitchen too and love looking at them too

    1. Eddie chose to watch Matilda, I wasn't very keen. :) We read it together last year.

  2. I'm not sure I've ever had a Dominos pizza, although we have a delivery base close to us. That's such a loving and sad story about your Dad Galina. My orchid is doing well too, one more still to bloom #365

    1. Thank you, Mary! I think Eddie love the whole concept of having a pizza takeaway more than the actual pizza.

  3. We used to eat domino's every Monday on the way back from orchestra - the teacher who drove us would always let us stop off on the way back to school. I remember it was quite good back then, but I don't think I've had one since.
Thankfully our flowers hadn't come out properly so survived the snow fine.

    1. Thank you, Emma! I was worried about tulips and hyacinths, which started to poke leaves before the snow, but looks like they haven't died.

  4. great picture of the pigeon.
The pussy willows are beautiful and pleasantly different.
A nice last memory for your mum of your dad, much better then regretting an argument.
I have never been impressed with any over priced home delivery pizza, though do like the concept now of gluten free than more of them do. No dairy free option yet.

    1. Thank you, Elaine! We used to laugh at Dad, who took the 8th of March very seriously. He would sit by the phone, and call all the female friends and family to wish them a happy Women's day. Now I find it really lovely and endearing.

  5. hehehe! I love the Greggs photos. It makes me feel OK about my girls LOVING their sausage rolls.
Ahh! Domino's OK but it's nothing special. It's way too expensive!

    1. I totally agree, even with a 2 for 1 offer, it is pricey. Much better to buy fresh pizza in supermarkets and just cook it at home. Or even make your own, though I'm not very good at it.

  6. What a beautiful and sad story about your mum and dad. I've never had Domino's pizza, we occasionally have a Pizza Hut delivery, which the kids think is the best thing ever! I love the pussy willow, that brings back memories of going for walks in the countryside in the spring with my parents - looking out for lambs, catkins and pussy willow!

    1. Thank you Sarah! We don't have a Pizza Hut in town, though I remember liking their pizza and especially the salad counter from when we lived in Oxford many years ago.

  8. A difficult week for you but such lovely memories of your dad and a wonderful tradition to continue with your mum. Nothing wrong with a few visits to Greggs, they don't have table and chairs in our local one in the UK, so i rarely visit

    1. Thank you Suzanne, I wish I could see Mum in person and hug her, but she lives thousands of miles away. Our Greggs has a few tables and chairs, but they are busy most of the time, it's a popular place.

  9. I love Dominos gluten free pizza but it is very expensive and only available in small: I could eat double! #project365
