Hama Beads Wild Animals Kit

"Mama, you go watch the news. I don't need your help!"

It happened so that on Eddie's birthday last month we were travelling to Cornwall by car. It was a rather taxing journey, and my poor little man has been sick non-stop for several hours. Not much of a birthday, is it?! He perked up when we finally got there, and we even had a little cake in our cottage on arrival, complete with candles and a Happy birthday song. He enjoyed it but missed having his friends around.
Instead we had a proper party for him yesterday, with a small group of his buddies. We were lucky to have a good weather, which allowed us to have a birthday feast in the garden, with a Spiderman cake. The boys will always be boys, i.e. noisy, loud and bursting with energy. We had a few hectic hours, but after our guests left I offered a box of Hama beads for Eddie to play with. I didn't quite know what to expect. In the past we did some crafting with Hama beads, when my older son was much younger, but I haven't bought them recently. In fact I didn't think Eddie would have enough patience to stay put for the length of the project.

We picked up a Hama Beads Wild Animals set which we received recently from Craft Merrily together with an abundance of other crafting goodies. Eddie immediately decided that he wanted to create an elephant pattern, while my older niece picked a lion design. We placed all the beads in a big plate, and for over an hour it was blissfully quiet and peaceful.

This lovely kit includes an elephant pegboard and a lion pegboard as well as a big bag of hama beads (2200 beads) and a sheet of ironing paper. There are also 4 stands for your finished art projects.
As with all Hama beads kits, once you complete a pattern, you need to set it with an iron, then remove it from the pegboard. If you want, attach the stands to display the artwork.

I did help Eddie with the pattern, but just a little bit, like doing the outline of the elephant's ear and the grass, but he did most of the project himself. In fact he kept telling me that he didn't need my help at all.

I was amazed that he did it all in one evening, what a discovery. Now I am going to get a supply of Hama beads to keep him occupied in a quiet activity.

We have another couple of sets to play with, so watch this space for more reviews.

I might be prejudiced as a Mum, but I think this is one splendid elephant. Won't you agree?

My niece Sasha who is 12, managed to finish two lions in the time it took Eddie to do his elephant.

As you can see, she did a super job, creating a lion and a lion cub.

  2. Wow, that looks great. I used to love Hama beads, or whatever the East German version of them was called, when I was younger.

Thanks for linking up with Monday Parenting Pin It Party x

    1. Thank you Carolin! I don't think we had them in Russia when I was a kid.
