Tracker bars: snacking on the go

When late morning rolls around and you're feeling a bit out of sorts, don't worry; you're probably just a little eleven o-clockish (Winnie the Pooh quote)

If you are out an about and don't have time to stop for a cup of coffee and a bite, a handy snack that you may eat on the go is always welcome. Tracker bars were the first ever cereal bar on the market. These small size bars come in three varieties: Milk Choc chip, White Choc chip and Crunchy Peanut. I have seen the cheerful bright boxes of Tracker bars in the shops, but confess that until recently I haven't tried them.

As I am following 5:2 diet this year, I am on the lookout for products that are relatively low in calories and work as a treat. There is so much miso soup and rice cakes one can consume, and after a while it gets truly boring. A chocoholic needs a treat once in a while, even on fasting days. Tracker bars come at 126kcal each, and could easily be split in half to have as an elevenses snack with a cup of diet coffee or in the afternoon, when you need what blessed Winnie the Pooh called a smackerel or a little something to perk you up. I like the design of packaging, with the cute paw prints and scattered nuts and choc chips. But what do they taste like?

Chocolate Chip bars are made with chewy oats, roasted peanuts and chocolate chips.  The list of ingredients contains vegetable fat, sweetened skimmed milk, maize, sugar, vegetable oil, rice flour, cocoa mass and more (including emulcifiers E471 and E472c). Each bar is 26g in weight.
It looks pretty, with big pieces of peanuts and chocolate chips (they amount to 6.2% of the contents but give an impression that there are more of them than just 6%).
It is a chewy bar with a good crunch, quite sweet.

White Chocolate bar is a mix of chewy oats, roasted peanuts and white chocolate chips. You get a mix of textures from chewy to crispy and cunchy, and flavours from sweet to slightly salty. A pleasant snack, though a bit too sweet to my personal taste, but then I am not a big fan of white chocolate.

Crispy  Peanut bar is a combination of roasted peanuts and chewy oats. It is crunchy, sweet'n'salty, with a note of barley malt.

I would like to see more flavours from Tracker bars, with different nuts like hazelnuts or almonds rather than peanuts, and dried fruit like soured cherries or cranberries instead of the chocolate chips. And dark chocolate chips are always welcome too.

Disclosure: I received a selection of Tracker bars for the purposes of reviewing. All opinions are mine.

  1. I adore these, (and they fit well into my diet) but I didn't even know that they did a peanut one! Will have to give that a go :)

  2. I love Tracker bars and would especially like the peanut one I think, but I do wish they'd make them (and all bars) with less sugar in - we're a nation of sugar junkies!

    1. Totally agree with you, so many brands sneak in sugar and salt everywhere
